Making the opening speech of the symposium, Dean of the Faculty of Theology Prof. Dr. Veysel ÖZDEMİR stated that 64 papers will be presented by local and foreign scientists at the symposium and wished the symposium to be beneficial.
Our University Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ, in his speech at the “International Religion and Civilization” symposium on "Religion and Health" reminded that our holy religion Islam attaches great importance to human life and health, and said, "Both in the Qur'an and in the hadiths of our Prophet, it has been declared that health and life are the greatest trusts and blessings of Almighty Allah to man, and it has been ordered to protect them. According to Islam, prevention of diseases comes before treatment.” Our Master, the Prophet orders us to "know the value of health before we get sick". The most important recommendation of today's medicine is preventive medicine. Because preventive medicine is an easier and cheaper treatment method. When various verses in the Quran and the hadiths of our Prophet are considered , it is clear that a balanced diet, hygiene and health are inter-related concepts.
Today, in our country where the covid 19 epidemic is common, people's benefiting from preventive health services or fulfilling the important task of "being vaccinated" can be given as an example to this topic. I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate everyone who contributed to the organization of the symposium and wish the symposium to be successful.”
After the speeches, a panel on "Islam and Health", where our University Rector Prof. Dr. Fahrettin GÖKTAŞ was appointed as the moderator, started.
Some papers such as “Healthy Life and Islam” by Vice Rector of our University Prof. Dr. Bilal ÜSTÜNDAĞ, , "Disease Medicine, Health Medicine and Islam" by Üsküdar University Rector Prof. Dr. Nevzat TARHAN and "Muslims' Services to Medical Science and Muslim Doctors' first discoveries” by Istanbul University Faculty Member Prof. Dr. Ahmet AĞIRAKÇA were presented during the panel.
